Jay has over thirteen years of industry experience in operations and strategy roles with companies doing business in the areas of retail, healthcare, life sciences, academic research, and intellectual property management. Most recently, he spent five years in internal consulting roles working on technology strategy, operations, and innovation management projects.

Jay holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan where he focused on strategy and operations. He also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science and Science & Technology Studies from Michigan State University. Jay enjoys spending time with his partner and two sons, as well as his extended family in southeastern Michigan.

When I think back on times I’ve enjoyed work most, it has been when I have been able to help others. Growing up, the kinds of jobs I was interested in were all in this vein, but I admit that consulting had not made the list until about five years ago when I began leading operational improvement projects. I already knew that business problems were engaging, but I learned that helping other groups within my company was a lot of fun. The work we did was also very satisfying as it made a real difference to everyone.

I also appreciate and strive for simplicity. When I hear people express frustration about their jobs, I often hear them talk about processes that are absurdly complex. These processes grow over time, becoming tedious and inefficient. I love to dig in and help teams rediscover why they do what they do, and find better ways to get their work done.

No one person has all the answers, which is why working in a collaborative environment like we have at Thought Ensemble is essential to finding the best solutions. My favorite projects include:

  • Developing a deep understanding of a business and their offerings, identifying what makes them competitive, and uncovering opportunities for improvement
  • Diagnosing and providing solutions for innovation obstacles within a business
  • Analyzing business processes and driving efficiency through simplification
